I received a book on liquid soap making by Jackie Thompson, appropriately called Liquid Soapmaking. I know what you’re thinking: Lesli, you already make liquid soap.
Yes, I do. You can buy it in the bulk section of GreenStar on Buffalo, where you can fill your own container from the gallon jugs. It’s easy, cost-effective, and eco-friendly, since I can reuse the gallon jugs (GreenStar usually saves them for me), and the whole process means less packaging and waste.
Be that as it may, learning is an ongoing process, and Jackie has come up with some great techniques for creating a really thick soap/body wash that I want to try. I’m also kicking around the idea of doing the opposite, and creating a foaming wash (which requires a very thin solution) for kids–so extra mild. That one is easier–and if it’s something you’d be interested in, let me know in the comments. I’m especially interested to know whether moms of littles prefer unscented, or which scents.
Other than that, the week has been totally thrown off by the snow storms, which meant school delays, after school activities cancelled, and the loss of one of our cars to fix a mangled bumper (no injuries, just a slow skid into our own front yard…). One of those weeks, huh? So I’m way behind on production.
Better get to it, huh? Time for some music. How about… Cesaria Evora
